Parties and Parents

I'm going to be honest.  Most things teens and young adults want to do that they want to keep from parents or other annoying authorities involve one key element.  You have got to "know a guy".  This applies to most topics that will be cover here, including today's.  Parties.

There comes a time in most people's life when there is a totally awesome party that everyone is going to be at and few parents are the only ones who decide not to let their kid go.  When those few parents happen to be yours, life sucks.  As a teenager who has those kind of parents and is currently plotting to go to a rave after a long grounding period, I know how much it sucks.   More importantly how to get around it.

First thing first.  The "know a guy" part.  You have to find a friend who will either let you sleepover or say you are sleeping over at their house.  If your parents are the kind that call and talk to the parent have your friend pose as their parent.  Or better yet, plan an actual sleepover at a house with easygoing parents that is easy to sneak out of.  I understand that that option isn't always in reach.  So back to plan one.  After your parents have bought your story of the sleepover, you are pretty much home free.  Unfortunately there are a million little details to cover.

Now for the details.  If your parents call to check in on you during the time you are at a friends house, you are going to have to make up some type of story about the house you are supposedly staying at either not having a land line or the land line being down temporarily.  Have them call your cell phone if you have one.  If you don't have a cell phone  take a friend who does and give your parents that number to reach you on.

Transportation.  This paragraph is mainly for those who do not have cars or many friends with cars.  If you planned an actually sleepover as a cover story this isn't really a problem.  That is, until you need to get to the party.  This is the tricky part.  There are only a few things that will work.  You can have an older friend or sibling pick you up, walk if the party is close enough, or have the parent drop you of close to the location.(You will have to make up a story for that too).  Transportation to the friends house is an actual sleepover isn't planned is a bit harder.  Depending on the personality of your parents  the possibilities vary.  You can once again use older friends or siblings.  Or you can have your parents drop you off at a different place like a park or a game or whatever.  If that won't work you can always try having you parents drop you off at a friend's house when their parents aren't home.

Now that we've covered how to get to the party it's time for the dos and the don'ts for the actual party.
Do have as much fun as possible.
live up to the "stupid teenager" reputation
take advantage of games started up. (7 minutes in heaven, spin the bottle, truth or dare, strip poker, etc.)
      run if the cops come
Don't drink so much that you'll still be recovering from a hangover when you go home.
get arrested.  Not only do your parents find out about the party, they have to pick you up from jail.
           ditch your friends
try anything you aren't sure what it is.  EVER.
